From its hillside home in the Scottish Highlands, The GlenDronach Distillery has been creating the finest richly sherried single malts for nearly 200 years. From the germination of the barley to the flow of the purest middle cuts of distilled spirit, every step in the GlenDronach journey to the vat and onwards is taken with meticulous care and immaculate timing. The GlenDronach malt mill, glistening copper mash tun and Oregon pine wash-backs form part of a vigorous but carefully attended process. Then, the 4 elegant copper pot stills distil and re-distil the finest, richest spirit. What follows is the final secret of GlenDronach’s exceptional character. As was the case in 1826, The GlenDronach Distillery patiently matures its single malt whisky in superior quality sherry casks. Over the years of extended maturation, these carefully seasoned casks help create the unique richly sherried style that GlenDronach is famous for.
This GlenDronach single cask has been exclusive released in collaboration with Matthew Vaughn, to mark the upcoming release of “The King’s Man” by 20th Century Studios and MARV, coming to theatres soon. Expertly crafted by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie who selected no fewer than a selection of just six of the finest casks from 1989. Matured in Oloroso sherry casks with a final maturation in Pedro Ximénez casks from Spain, this twenty-nine-year-old Single Malt has an exceptional depth of character, truly befitting a Kingsman.
This exceptional 1989 vintage is inspired by the oldest bottle of whisky housed at The GlenDronach Distillery – a twenty-nine year-old whisky bottled in 1913, just before the outbreak of the first World War. Three friends had each purchased a bottle before leaving for war, vowing to open them together on their return. Tragically, only one of them returned home. Having never opened his bottle, his family later gifted it to the distillery, where it remains unopened and displayed in remembrance of fallen friends.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark field berry and plum skin on a base of aromatic bitters, sherry soaked walnut and vintage leather. Musk and cedar wood smoulder on a slate and earthen floor.
Palate: Dense autumn fruits meld with date, fig and treacle, rolling into black winter truffle, raisin and cocoa.
Finish: Blackberry, tobacco leaf and date oil linger into the rich, deep finish.
