The Glengoyne Distillery is certainly one of Scotland’s hidden secrets when it comes to great single malt. Situated only a short drive away from Glasgow in Dumgoyne, it has an excellent visitors centre. The unique identity this distillery has is that the whisky is produced in the ‘Highland’ region of Scotland and the whisky is matured in the ‘Lowland’ region of Scotland. The road out the front of the distillery is known as the ‘Highland Line’ the division between the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland. Established in 1833 as the ‘Burnfoot’ distillery it boasts a great range of aged single malt. Glengoyne Distillery translates to ‘Glen of the Wild Geese’. It has also been made famous by its place in the movie Angles’ Share
A beautifully full bodied whisky which has spent three decades maturing in Glengoyne’s dunnage warehouses using a combination of one third first fill European oak Sherry butts and two thirds refill Sherry butts. Bottled at 46.8% ABV and with no colouring or chillfiltration.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark chocolate and cherry sweetness, bold sherry notes with Seville orange marmalade, rum & raisin ice cream and all spice.
Palate: Big, bold and oily, stewed plums, orange marmalade, cherry jam, rich oak and spices of cinnamon, ginger and black pepper.
Finish: Long and delicious, orange boiled lollies, balanced baking spices.
