It is a family owned distillery and it is operated by Joyce Nethery and her daughter Autumn Nethery. They are known to be the only distillery in Kentucky to be owned and operated by females.   

The Nethery family live in Shelbyville Kentucky and they are a family renowned for farming. They own about 1000 acres of land all over Shelby County meanwhile their distillery and their home occupies about 64 acres in Shelbyville. It should be noted that most of the crops used in Jeptha Creed’s products come from their farm land. Mainly two types of corn were planted on their property: a non-GMO yellow corn (This is the normal corn used by most distilleries) and Bloody Butcher corn.

Their attention was drawn to the Bloody Butcher corn when Joyce Nethery planted some airy leaf tomatoes, airy leaf melons and also used some hectares to plant the Bloody Butcher corn. What she later discovered was very unique and that was the spark that later produced the Jeptha Creed Distillery. She noticed deer’s going through fields of yellow and white corn just to get to the Bloody Butcher corn. This made them realize that there was something special about that corn. The Bloody Butcher corn later gained fame and became their primary corn used for their spirits.

Jeptha Creed Straight Four Grain Bourbon contains about 70% of Bloody Butcher corn. This is absolutely amazing. Spirits which have a high percentage of Bloody Butcher corn are usually expensive but it’s amazing to know that 70% of it was used for this Jeptha Creed Straight Four Grain Bourbon and yet it is been sold at a very moderate price. The grains they use for their whiskey is grown in their farm and they also support local agriculture by buying more grains for their distillery.

This sweet spicy bourbon from Jeptha Creed is made up of 70% Bloody Butcher corn, 50% malted rye, 10% malted wheat and 5% malted barley. It has 49% alcohol, 98 proof and it’s about 2 years old.

Nose:  The description of the nosing can even make you feel like you’re literally having a taste of it already. It has a clean and fresh agricultural smell. You get aromas of sweet orange sparkle which is followed by some intense baking spice like cinnamon and some dried cranberries. You can also get vanilla cream aroma.

Palate:  On the sense of taste, it has a decent peculiar taste and also some baking spice notes like nutmeg, clove, toasted pecans and mint throughout the palate.

Appearance:  It ha s a cool brown appearance. A cinnamon brown-like appearance

Finish:  Long smooth rich get done with murmurs of ginger and cinnamon that dance across your tongue.
